Duo

I made a series of paired dimensional works after losing my friend Ron Gorchov in 2020. Ron was one of my first friends in New York, and I would often see him at our local coffee shop, Black Flamingo. He was also one of my favorite artists, and the person who first made me fall in love with abstract art.

After Ron passed away at the age of 90, I visited his grave in the summer of 2021. Then, in January 2022, Ron appeared in one of my dreams. In the dream, he showed me a vision of these artworks installed at Sunny’s.

The final installation is very close to what I saw that night.

The forms are soft and curved, and the textures feel organic. While making the pieces, I thought about rhythm and tempo as much as shape and texture, almost as if I were composing music.

I am especially grateful to Erin and Sean, who helped make it possible to install the work on Sunny’s wall almost exactly as I had seen it in my dream.
